William P. Montague, age 89 of Montgomery, IL passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, IL. He was born on July 17, 1920 in Chicago, IL the son of August and Catherine (Gene) Montague.
William was united in marriage on September 27, 1957 to the former Miss Grace Fitzmaurice and they spent the next 46 happy years together until her passing on December 4, 2003. Mr. Montague served his country proudly, during WWII, as a member of the United States Coast Guard. Bill was instrumental in the documenting of ?The Second Tragedy of Pearl Harbor?, which occurred on May 2, 1944. It was through his memories, and those of three other veterans, that this historic documentary was able to be made and then aired on The History Channel in December of 2001. Through his quick thinking actions Bill was able to save not only his ship, but also the lives of many of his fellow crewman. Mr. Montague enjoyed a career, for many years, as a commercial artist in the Chicago area. Bill was a loving husband, brother and uncle who will be missed by his family and friends.
William is survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Grace Montague; and his brother, Jerold Montague; and his sister, Eleanor Whitman.
Interment will take place in the St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, IL.
