Wilbur C. Bastian, age 90 of Hinckley, IL passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb, IL. He was born December 13, 1921 in Hinckley, IL the son of Earl and Alma (Klein) Bastian.

Wilbur C. Bastian, age 90 of Hinckley, IL passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb, IL. He was born December 13, 1921 in Hinckley, IL the son of Earl and Alma (Klein) Bastian.
Wilbur was united in marriage on September 27, 1947 to Jane Groves and they spent the next 64 happy years together. He was a lifetime member of the St. Paul?s United Church of Christ in Hinckley, where he had served as both a member of its Men?s Club and the Church Council. Wilbur attended Fay School, a one room country school in rural Hinckley and then graduated in 1939 from Hinckley High School. After graduating from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, he worked as an electrician and later started Bastian Electric. Wilbur was a Charter and Life Member of the Hinckley Lions Club. He was a former Board Member of the DeKalb County Habitat for Humanity, a former Hinckley Community Building Board Director, Hinckley Big-Rock School Board member and a DeKalb County 4-H Club and Rural Youth Association member. Wilbur was for many years, a Little League and softball Coach and an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. At the age of 89 Wilbur was ?discovered? at the local barber shop. He was cast with a speaking part in the movie recently filmed in DeKalb County. He was a current member of the Hinckley Golden Agers and the Hinckley Historical Society. Wilbur was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Bastian of Hinckley; his children, Robert (Kate) Bastian of Peoria, Patricia Winckler of Maple Park, Elaine Moen of Sycamore, Carol (Michael) Rutledge of Friendswood, TX and Linda (Darrin) Ott of Big Rock; his grandchildren, Marci (Raymond) Papiernik, Lisa (James) Chester, Jani (Robert) Wilson, Michael (Megan) Bastian, Kelly (Dennis) Schroeder, Bradley (Eva) Winckler, Ryne, Torie and Liza Moen, Daniel and Meghan Rutledge, Lauren and Tyler Ott; his eleven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Allan(Dorothy) Bastian and Ronald (Dolores) Bastian and his sister, Dorothy Mortell, all of Hinckley ; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alma Bastian; his granddaughter Kristy Bastian, his brother Alvin Bastian and a nephew Donald Bastian.
His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Paul?s United Church of Christ, 324 W. McKinley St., in Hinckley with Reverend Kristine Delmore, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Mound Cemetery in rural Somonauk, IL.
Memorials for Wilbur Bastian may be made in care of Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel.
Friends and family may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 N. Maple St. in Hinckley, IL.
