Violet ?Vye? Rose Marlow Herman Sagerhorn, 87, of Sandwich passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Provena Mercy Hospital. She was born February 1, 1922 in Bordulac, ND, daughter of John and Mabel (Kollman) Marlow.

Vye married Gordon Herman in 1941 and had three children, Barbara, Gordon and Marilyn. She married Allen Charles Sagerhorn of Kensett, Iowa in 1949, after having divorced Gordon in 1948. They had two daughters, Shirley and Lois. They were married for 39 years until Allen’s death in 1988.

Vye and Allen started their married life in Fargo, ND; through their married life they also lived in Moorehead, MN, Lombard, West Chicago and Mauston, WI, settling in Sandwich after Allen had a stroke in 1985.

Vye was known for many things: she was a waitress, homemaker, quilter, baker, gardener, and a friend to many. She was known for always having an armful of bracelets, which announced her arrival with their jingling.

Vye was the oldest of 11 siblings, Mother of 5 children and 2 son-in-laws, 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She is survived by 5 children, Barbara Davis of Oswego; Gordon (Linda) Herman of Leland; Marilyn (Leon) Caquelin of Somonauk; Shirley (Ricky) Rankin of Tucson, AZ; and Lois Blair of St. Charles; 2 sons-in-law, J. Thomas (Julie) Chivari of Hinckley and Frank Mylan
of Paw Paw; 4 sisters, Veronica (Arnold) Bowers of Hoquiam, WA; Alice Thornton of Aloha, OR; Faye Waltosz of Redmond, OR; and Jeannie Lindstrom of Hoquiam, WA; as well as two sisters-in-law Bobby (Donald) Marlow and Trena (Bernard) Marlow both of Hoquiam, WA.

Vye was preceded in death by her husband Allen, siblings Bernard, Donald, Irene, Fern, Ellen and Mary, and her grandson Justin Blair.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Salem Lutheran Church, 1022 N. Main St., Sandwich, IL. Interment will follow in the Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory, 1275 S. Countyline Rd., Sandwich, IL.
