Rosemary Rissman, age 95 of Hinckley, IL passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, IL. She was born on December 9, 1927 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of John and Genevieve (Schopen) Thornhill.
Rosemary married Michael Rissman on March 11, 1952, and they continued their life together for 71 years. Rosemary had many interests and talents. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She often worked outside the home, in the earliest years as a telephone operator, and later as a secretary/receptionist for the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office. She volunteered at her children’s school and for her church. Rosemary was an avid reader who also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, volunteering at the Hinckley Library, doing needlework and helping others. She was an active member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Sugar Grove, IL.
Rosemary is survived by her husband, Michael Rissman of Hinckley, IL; her children, Michael (Peggy) Rissman of Sarasota, FL, MaryEllen (Larry) Zimmerman of Murfreesboro, TN, and Mark (Geri) Rissman of Newark, IL; six grandchildren: Adam (Kristi) Zimmerman, Luke (Heather) Zimmerman, Ashley Anderson, Ian (Megan) Rissman, Annalia Rissman, and Emma Rissman; eight great-grandchildren: Gage, Elizabeth, Leif, Lily, Tatum, Eli, Liam, and a little one soon to be born; siblings: Priscilla McChesney of IN, Gerald Thornhill of NC, Carolyn Sapp of WI and John Thornhill of SC, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Genevieve Thornhill and two sisters, Mildred and Muriel.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 5-7:00 PM at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 North Maple Street, with the Funeral Service immediately following. Interment will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Hinckley, IL.
