Raymond Niles

Raymond L. Niles, age 84 of Plano, IL passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Sandwich, IL. He was born on January 13, 1927 in Plano, IL the son of Walter and Amelia (Thurow) Niles.
Ray was united in marriage on October 8, 1950 at the Plano United Methodist Church in Plano, IL to the former Phyllis Howen and they spent the next 60 happy years of their lives together. Mr. Niles served his country proudly with the United States Army during the Korean War. Ray was employed for many years by Davis Construction in Plano, IL. He was later employed as a Foreman at the Kendall County Highway Department. Mr. Niles was a longtime member of the Plano American Legion Post #395 in Plano, IL. Ray also served as a member of the Little Rock Township Cemetery Board and two terms on the City Council in Plano, IL. For over 20 years, he was a volunteer fireman in Plano, IL. Ray enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be missed by his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his wife, Phyllis Niles; his children, Jacki Niles and Jeffrey (Tracey) Niles all of Plano, IL; his grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Fleming of Sandwich, IL and Randy Niles of Plano, IL; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Amelia Niles; one son, John Phillip Niles at birth; and his eight siblings, Floyd Niles, Margaret Schnitz, Paul Niles, Juanita Phelper, Donald Niles, Ardath Fritsch, Walter Niles and John Niles.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South Street, Plano, IL. Interment will be private. Memorials may be directed to the Little Rock ? Fox Fire Department, 5 East North Street in Plano, IL 60545 or the Open Door Rehabilitation Center, 405 South Wells Street in Sandwich, IL 60548.
Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
