I retired from CAT in 2009. I believe everyone at CAT met Randy at one time or another. He was a great person. I was always amazed that I would see him cycling to work during some of the worst whether. Your family has my deepest condolences for Randy will be missed.

Betty and Family. I just heard about Randy's passing. My strongest memory of Randy is always wondering how anyone could ride a bike from your house all of the way to CAT. It's been a long time since I have seen any of you, since you used to do my hair at your house, and your children were still young but I have definitely not forgotten you. My thoughts are with you as you grieve for Randy. Bless you.

Randy and I were lamenting over the phone last Spring about our failing bodies and the compromises we were finding necessary to make to stay "on the road". I had purchased a trike and Randy, later that Summer, did as well. We were planning to meet in the Quad Cities for some time together on the bike paths. I never allowed for a moment that he wasn't going to overcome his illness. He was always "a finisher" and I took it for granted this would just be another race he'd win. We met in the mid 80's through UMCA events and always looked forward to encounters where we could lie about how fast we were. Man never had a better friend than Randy Johnson. I love you Randy!

Randy, in his van, trailed Dan Winslow and me from the Southern tip of Illinois to Wisconsin on a tandem. I never forgot that adventure. We raced our bicycles around Fermi Lab with corporate entries from many other companies. Betty was on the CB radio for our annual Silver Springs 60 and fall bicycle rides. We played Wally Ball in the winter and rode our bicycles all over the state. I still have my patch jacket and photo albums of all of us enjoying what we loved best. I lived just around the corner from Randy & Betty when they lived in Boulder Hill. That was a long time ago. We went to Lake Shelbyville every summer for camping, swimming, bicycling, boating with many Caterpillar co-workers. The memories will last forever. Betty, I guess I knew this was coming. I some ways, he is in a better place, but you must miss him immensely as countless others do. I'm living in Peoria now, married to Brenda and am trying to stay mobile. I still have all my old bicycles hanging in the rafters in the basement. I will make it a point to take my next ride in the Spring in his honor. Larry Shay

I worked with Randy in Aurora and have many fond memories of him. Randy was always happy and fun to work with. In those days we all wore ties and at the end of the day, Randy and I would try to beat each other in taking our ties off. He usually won. My thoughts and prayers are with Randy and all his family.

Randy was a pretty cool guy to work with. A lot of us called him "Butch" and I suppose others called him names I will not post here. He had a sense of humor that was hard to top. I remember one day I brought in a store bought birthday cake to treat the accounting crew and before anyone said anything, Butch found his pocket knife and proceeded to cut the center out of the cake! At first it bothered me and then I found out who did it. When he went to get his sandwich that day, there was a small center cut out of it. So, yes, we had some good times and laughed about day for a long, long time. I sincerely extend my sympathies to Betty and the rest of his family for their loss. Betty and Family, The Walkers are sending prayers of comfort to you and your family. Randy was such a great person both to work with and personally. I still can't believe he was 69 because he was such a young person at heart. I have shared so many work stories about Randy and remember dearly what fun we all had playing cards with both of you. I remember when I was young and you guys came out to visit us in Tucson. Randy loved a clean car and he would go out and clean off the dust everyday. Later when you visited us here in Colorado I remember Randy's sense of humor and energy. I'm sure he is on a nice, long bike ride in heaven.

I worked with Randy at Caterpillar in Aurora. We would always see him walking into work with his bike gear on. He was always very helpful and a joy to work with. My thoughts and prayers for Randy's family.

I was blessed enough to count Randy as one of my best friends. Without his encouragement, there were many bicycle rides I would have not finished. Always a true friend and companion along the way. I will miss you sorely my friend.

I was saddened to hear of Randy's passing. I too am a retiree of Caterpillar from the Aurora Plant. I retired in 2000 and worked with Randy on many occasions. CAT provided good careers but it was the people we worked with that impacted our lives. Randy was one who interacted with others is a caring and kind manner. Randy's interests outside of CAT is what most of us CAT people would remember. He was an avid cyclist. A marathon runner myself, I can relate to his passion and dedication to cycling. He even participated in some of our CAT running activities. I am so sorry for your loss. Blessings as needed to the family.

Randy was a joy to work with and learn from at Caterpillar in Aurora. Just two weeks ago I told a "Randy Johnson story" here in Decatur at Caterpillar accounting, and his spirit will live on in our memories. Peace and love to his family.
