Margaretta Elaine "Gretta or Granny" Maier

Margaretta Elaine “Gretta” “Granny” Maier, age 80 of Plano, IL passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at her home. She was born on August 3, 1934 in Plano, IL the daughter of Lavern and Emma (Springer) Wallis.

Margaretta was united in marriage on August 25, 1960 to Mr. Willard B. Maier and they spent many happy years together until his passing. Mrs. Maier was a member of the Plano Fellowship Church in Plano, IL. She was also a longtime member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Plano, IL. Margaretta enjoyed playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles. She spent many hours crocheting afghans, embroidering, baking her mother’s sugar cookies, and collecting skunks. Mrs. Maier enjoyed going out to restaurants and visiting with her many friends. Margaretta was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Margaretta is survived by her son, Randolph (Connie) Maier of Plano, IL; her three grandchildren; her eight great-grandchildren; her brothers, Don (Jinny) Wallis of Lake George, IN and Jim (Jane) Wallis of Mendota, IL; her sisters, Myrleen (Robert) Martner of Plano, IL, Charmine Pearson of Norway, IL and Starlynn (Neil) Lobdell of Plano, IL; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Jean Maier of Sandwich, IL; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lavern and Emma Wallis; her husband, Willard Maier; her son, William Wayne Maier; her granddaughter; her sister Beverly J. (Archie) Tuntland and her brothers-in-law, Harold Peterson, Donald Maier, Carl (Eleanor) Maier and John (Emily) Maier.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street in Plano, IL. Interment will be private.

Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
