Kenneth Cecil Reid, age 90, of Waterman, IL passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born on October 13, 1920 in Clifton, IL the son of Cecil and Clara (Nickerson) Reid.
Ken was united in marriage on September 26, 1945 in Clifton, IL to the former Geneva Mayes and they spent the next 64 happy years together until her passing on December 2, 2009. Before military service, he was employed as a bookkeeper. Ken was a Veteran in the United States Army having served during World War II from 1942 thru 1945. He was a longtime and very active member of the Waterman American Legion Post #654. Mr. Reid was, for many years, a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Waterman, IL. For several years, he and his wife Geneva, owned and operated the Colonial Caf? in Waterman, IL. Mr. Reid was then employed, for 18 years, at Paul A. Johnson Trucking Co. in Waterman, IL where he was the Manager from 1961 until 1967. Prior to his retirement, Ken was the Transportation Supervisor at Northern Illinois University. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Gary Reid of Coal Valley, IL, Carol (Chuck) Genenbacher of Cincinnati, OH, Cynthia (Edward) Kallal of Atlanta, GA and Pamela (Randy) Tate of Sycamore, IL; his nine grandchildren; his nine great grandchildren with twins on the way; his brother, Richard (Norma) Reid of LaGrange, IL; his sister, Phyllis Hatch of Momence, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Clara Reid; his wife, Geneva Reid; his sisters, Vialta Kelson and Melba Wilken; and his brother, Robert Reid.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Nash-Nelson Chapel, 1001 E. Garfield St., Waterman, IL with Pastor Harlene Harden officiating. A Military Graveside Service will follow in the North Clinton Cemetery, Waterman, IL.
A Memorial Fund for Kenny will be established by his family.
Friends may visit from 9:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Saturday, on September 10, 2011 at the Nash-Nelson Chapel in Waterman, IL.
