John Robert Dickson, age 75 of Big Rock, IL passed away after a brief battle with cancer, on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Rush-Copley Medical Center. He was born in Aurora, IL, January 6, 1935 the son of Ivan and Alice (Ament) Dickson.
John was united in marriage, March 20, 1956 to Miss Shirley Jean Shick and they spent the next 39 happy years together until her passing, September 8, 1995. John was a member of the English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock, IL. He was a farmer, for many years, in the Big Rock area. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by both family and friends.
He is survived by his children, David (Carol) Dickson of Lynden, WA, Denise (Steve) Zinkie of Yorkville, IL, Donna (Tom) Leffelman of Canton, GA, Dawn (Paul) Mulligan of Yorkville, IL and Dale (Teresa) Dickson of Winslow, ME; his 12 grandchildren; his sisters, Donna Beggs of Gainesville, FL, Norma Harper of Portland, OR and Doris (Victor) Fenske of Phoenix, AZ; his brother, Douglas Dickson of Yorkville, IL; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Alice Dickson; his wife, Shirley Dickson; and step-mother, Ada Dickson.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 1, 2010 at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 East Countryside Parkway, Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bristol, IL.
