Of Williams Bay
John McLaughlin was born at home in Hillside, Linsfort Buncrana, Ireland to William and Madge (O’Donnell) McLaughlin. He passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016.
John was a self-taught man with much ambition. He drove big machinery when he first came to the United States. Later, he built homes in the Chicago area and in Wisconsin. He had a passion for politics and history and could talk about the presidents and the Civil War with anyone. John would often approach folks and ask them where they were from; as he could discern accents and even tell you the locality they came from, particularly in England or Ireland.
John was a strong supporter of Open Arms Free Clinic. He could tell you the pros and cons of socialized medicine having lived and worked in England. John currently lived in Williams Bay Wisconsin where he was much beloved by everyone. He always greeted everyone with much cheer.
John is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughter Maureen (Mike) Koziol; step-daughter Tonya (Mark Cisek) Lillie; step-son Daniel (Lucy Su) Lillie; grandchildren Kostya and Natasha Koziol, Alex and James Cisek, Isabella Lillie; and great granddaughter Emma Gunn; sister Nuala (Patrick) Ward; brother Patrick (Angela) McLaughlin, Eammon (Margaret) McLaughlin, Daniel (Elsie) McLaughlin; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews in the Chicagoland, Ireland, England, and Australia. He was particularly close to cousins Mary Lynch, Frances Molloy, and Arthur McGinnis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William; brother James McLaughlin; sisters Rose Gallanagh and Bridget Preston.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Toynton’s Walworth Funeral Home, 328 Kenosha St., Walworth, WI. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Benedicts Catholic Church, 137 Dewey Ave., Fontana, Wisconsin. The family will be receiving guests at church from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass.
Private family burial will take place at a later time.
