James L. Erickson, age 60, of Wilmington, IL passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at the River House where he called home, on Monday, November 13, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1963 in Aurora, IL the son of two loving parents, David and Luanne (Brettelle) Erickson.
James was united in marriage at the Plano Methodist Church in Plano, IL on July 16, 1988 to Miss Heidi Button, his soulmate, and they spent the next 35 years happily together. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was employed for many years as a local union carpenter. James was a creative man and had an eye for how to make everything work best.
At the time of his passing, James was retired and cared for everyone around him. He spent his time helping with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife and family, playing fantasy football, talking about politics, and making big plans to take his brand new camper all over the United States. James looked forward to making a trip to visit his son, Kurtis, in Sweden. James enjoyed visiting his three grandsons in Missouri to watch them play and grow up. James enjoyed spending time with his oldest daughter, three granddaughters, and Rob, cooking out, watching sports, and going on boat rides. James was adventurous and always had a plan for the future.
James is survived by his mother, Luanne Erickson of Coal City, IL; his wife, Heidi Erickson of Wilmington, IL; his children, Stephanie (Robert) Boers of Morris, IL, Kara (Derek Podany) Erickson of Troy, MO; Kurtis (Jenny Östberg) Erickson of Burlöv, Sweden; his grandchildren, Noah Erickson, Rilee Boers, Madelynn Boers, Emma Boers, Gavin Podany, and Mason Podany; his brother, Chad (Kristin) Erickson of Channahon, IL; his sister, Shelly Erickson of Morris, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Erickson; his two brothers, David Erickson and Shawn Erickson.
Family and friends may visit James from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville, IL.
James’ Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.
