Harry E. Litchfield, III, died unexpectantly but peacefully on December 14^th, 2022, at his home in Yorkville, Illinois. He was born August 30, 1943, in Taunton, Massachusetts to Harry E and Gretta E Litchfield, Jr.

He married Jacqueline B Thomas in 1973 in Flushing, Michigan. He received his BA Degree from The College of William and Mary in 1965; and his MA Degree from Michigan State University in 1972. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran. His career in management and leadership development spanned over forty years with General Motors, Deere & Company, and independent consulting. Major activities included board membership on the Illinois State Board of Education, Illowa Council Boy Scouts of America, and the Institute of Management Studies. He held national offices in Sigma Chi Fraternity. He enjoyed gardening, travel, public service, and volunteering.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; sons, Matthew (Rachel) and Thomas (Yensy); grandchildren, Ellie (Tyler) and Matthew Jr; Halle and Andrea and Alaina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Christine, and sister-in-law Martha.

All services will be private with Interment taking place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

Memorials can be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or the Rock Island County Animal Shelter.

I learned of Harry's passing in mid-February. I was loaned to his group at Deere corporate in 1977 for several months. I came to know Harry and value him in my 35-years with Deere. He was one of a few impact persons on me. I told him so a couple years ago as I was reflecting on special people in my life's journey. I don't recall if I knew that he was a fellow Vietnam vet during our work years. But I confirmed this with him a couple years ago. I recall him saying that he was a U.S. Army artillery officer forward observer attached to a remote Australian artillery battery. He was deep in indian country. I will not forget Harry! I was shocked and saddened to hear of Harry’s passing. He gave me the wonderful opportunity to join his department and I will always be grateful to him. Harry was a great teacher and “developer of people”. My heart goes out to his family whom he loved so much.

I was shocked when I received the phone call from Matt that Harry was no longer with us. He was truly a one of a kind and never knew a stranger. I was fortunate to have had Harry for a manager for many years but more importantly a mentor. I will miss our weekly conversations !!
