Glenn Delbert Smith, age 86 of Sandwich, IL passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, FL. He was born on June 14, 1924 in Chester, IL the son of Emza and Bernice (Walker) Smith.
Glenn was united in marriage to the former Miss Carolyn Wells on November 7, 1942 and they spent the next 68 happy years together. Glenn’s passing marks the loss of one more member of America’s Greatest Generation. Mr. Smith served his country proudly with the United States Army Air Corp during World War II in Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He was a member of Cornerstone Church in Sandwich,IL. Mr. Smith was employed for many years as a Welder. He was employed for several years at Barber Green in Aurora, IL and was involved in the first building stage at Fermilab in Batavia,IL. Glenn was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by both family and friends.
He is survived by the love of his life, Carolyn Smith of Sandwich, IL; his children, Larry (Jeanne) Smith of Somonauk, IL and Shirley Izaguirre of Laguna Beach, CA; his five grandchildren; and his thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Cornerstone Church, 17347 Pratt Rd. in Sandwich, IL with Pastor Paul Banister, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL.

Friends may visit from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1275 S. Countyline Rd in Sandwich, IL.
