George A. Patterson, age 85, of Oswego, IL passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Hillside Rehab and Care Center in Yorkville, IL. He was born on May 12, 1938 in Magnolia Township, Putman County, IL, the son of Ermet and Julia (Fulk) Patterson.
George was united in marriage on June 29, 1958 to Glenna Heaney and they spent the next 65 years happily together. George retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in Montgomery, IL after 30 years of employment. Mr. Patterson was a longtime member of the Auroraland Auto Restorers Club and was a talented antique auto restorer of many Fords after retirement. He and Glenna enjoyed going to car shows, attending Bluegrass jams and spending time with family. He also instilled a great love of travel in his children and grandchildren. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
George is survived by his wife, Glenna Patterson of Oswego, IL; his children, Colanne (Chris) Schwemlein of Sandwich, IL and Brian (Kathleen) Patterson of Aurora, IL; his grandchildren, Kent Patterson of Broomfield, CO and Briana (fiancé, Chase Weber) Patterson of Aurora, IL; his siblings, Thelma Schaer of Metamora, IL, Stan Patterson of Oswego, IL and Betty (Mike) Kent of Pekin, IL; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ermet and Julia Patterson; his son, Kevin Patterson, in infancy; his siblings, Mary Hasselman, Margaret Schlupp, Jude Rogers and Bud Patterson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL. Interment will be held, at a later date, in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until the Hour of Service on Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Funeral Home in Yorkville, IL.
