Geneva Mayes Reid, age 87, of Waterman, IL passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, IL. She was born on August 7, 1922 near Knoxville, TN the daughter of Luther and Theodocia (Weaver) Mayes.
In 1929, the United States Government bought Geneva?s family farm in Tennessee to build the Norris Dam. They then moved their home to Clifton, IL where Geneva was raised. She was a 1940 graduate of the Chebanse High School in Chebanse, IL and later graduated from Burnham Beauty School in Chicago, IL. Geneva was united in marriage on September 26, 1945 in Clifton, IL to Mr. Kenneth Cecil Reid and they spent the next 64 happy years of their lives together. Mrs. Reid was a longtime member of the Waterman United Methodist Church, in Waterman, IL. She, and her husband Ken, for several years, owned and managed the Colonial Caf?, in Waterman, IL. Mrs. Reid was later employed by Rocket Pizza, in Waterman, IL. Geneva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by both family and friends. She devoted her entire life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth C. Reid of Waterman, IL; her children, Gary (Lorelei) Reid of Coal Valley, IL, Carol (Chuck) Genenbacher of Cincinnati, OH, Cynthia (Edward) Kallal of Atlanta, GA and Pamela (Randy) Tate of Sycamore, IL; her nine grandchildren; her eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Mayes of Yorkville, IL; her two sisters, Madonna Lee of Riverside, CA and Lois Feldhouse of Rensselaer, IN; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Theodocia Mayes; her five brothers, Earl, Ole, Enver, Hubert and Herbert Mayes; and her four sisters, Lillis Donnelly, Argel Meyer, Lorena Petersen, and Dorothy Hanson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Nash-Nelson Funeral Home, 1001 W. Garfield St. in Waterman, IL with Reverend Glen Stewart, officiating. Interment will follow in North Clinton Cemetery in Waterman, IL.
Friends may visit from 9:00 until the Hour of Service on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Funeral Home in Waterman, IL.
