Ethel Christian, age 109 of Yorkville, IL passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion, Sandwich. She was born March 24, 1903 in Kendall County, the daughter of Peter and Maggie (Tendall) Thompson.
Ethel was united in marriage December 31, 1925 to Otto Milford Christian and they spent the next 35 happy years of their lives together until his passing September of 1961. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was a longtime member of Helmar Lutheran Church, Newark. Ethel was formerly employed as a writer at the Kendall County Record. She was a past member of the Farmers Club and enjoyed braiding rugs for her family and friends.
Ethel is survived by her children, Lois (Orven) Clauson, Yorkville, Kathleen Prickett, Yorkville, Rodney (DJ) Christian, Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law, Wendy Christian, Gold Canyon, AZ; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great- grandchildren; five great-grandsons; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto M. Christian; son, Richard Christian; sisters, Majorie Thompson and Florence Jaki; brothers, Ray, Sherman and Stewart Thompson; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Marie, Glenora and Myrtle Thompson; brother-in-law, Joseph Jaki; son-in-law, Robert Prickett; and great-grandson, Brian Robert Prickett, in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Rd, Newark, Pastor Stan Hughes, officiating. Interment will follow in Helmar Lutheran Cemetery, Newark.
Friends may visit from 9:00 AM until the Hour of Service, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Church in Newark.
Memorials may be directed to the Family Life Center at Helmar Lutheran Church or to the Charity of the Donors Choice.
