David Wilson McMinn, age 79 of Plano, IL passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, December 19, 2014. He was born on November 6, 1935 in Lavinia, TN the son of Herschel and Laura Ellen (Barger) McMinn.
David was united in marriage on June 14, 1979 in Plano, IL to Theda Raye Thompson and they have spent the next 35 happy years together. He was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his many, many friends and family.
Mr. McMinn retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad after 44 years of employment. He was a longtime member of the Plano Christian Church in Plano, IL. David spent many years building a miniature railroad, complete with handmade buildings and a pond, for his backyard. He enjoyed woodworking, especially the art of Intarsia. David entered his works in the Sandwich Fair where, throughout the years, he won many, many purple ribbons. He spent many enjoyable hours reading and working in his garden.
David is survived by his wife, Theda McMinn of Plano, IL; his children, Phyllis (Sammie) McKinon of Panama City, FL and Christopher (Teri) McMinn of Jacksonville, IL; his step-children, Keith Pennington of Loves Park, IL, Kelly (William) Prost of Orland Park, IL and Kayla (James Flax) Pennington of Crete, IL; his grandchildren, Rebecca, Abigail, Anastasia, Winston, Isabella, Nigel, Genevieve, Joshua, Allison and Jeremy; his great-grandchildren, Rayann, Lane and Alice; his sisters, Virginia Hoff of Montgomery, IL and Etta Mae Little of Milan, TN; also many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Andrew Pennington-Flax and Charles Pennington-Flax; his brothers, Ollie McMinn and Leon Allred; and his sisters, Clara Giliffan, Louise Farmer, Cleo McAlexander and Jenny Mae Newton.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street in Plano, IL.
Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
