Bernice M. Kirkus

Bernice M. Kirkus, age 93 of Waterman, IL passed away on November 1, 2013 at the Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center in DeKalb, IL. She was born on June 4, 1920 in Waterman, IL the daughter of John M. and Rebecca (Liddick) Kitner.
Bernice was united in marriage on May 27, 1945 at the United Methodist Church in Waterman, IL to Mr. Kermit S. Kirkus and they spent the next 55 happy years together until his passing on March 17, 2001. Mrs. Kirkus was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Waterman, IL. She was also a member of the Waterman Historical Society. Bernice received her Teaching Degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL and taught for 35 years in the Waterman area. She was a loving wife, aunt and cousin who will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.
Bernice is survived by her cousins, Ken (Gladys) Liddick of Waterman, IL, Marilyn (Jerry) Martinson of Hinckley, IL, Janet (Clifford) Mendota, IL, Lisa (Pete) Ross of WI; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her many close friends including, Vickie (Jim) Herrera of Rifle, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rebecca Kitner; her husband, Kermit Kirkus; and her two brothers, Robert and John R. Kitner.
A Funeral Service for Bernice will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Waterman United Methodist Church , 210 West Garfield Street in Waterman, IL with Reverend Paul Lee, officiating. Interment will follow in the North Clinton Cemetery in Waterman, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Nash-Nelson Funeral Home, 1001 West Garfield Street in Waterman, IL.
