Arnold C. Zahilt

Arnold C. Zahlit, age 89, of Sandwich, IL, formerly of Downers Grove, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 8, 1924 in Chicago, IL the son of John and Mary (Ankovitz) Zahlit.
Arnold was united in marriage on May 29, 1947 to Dolores Galbraith and they spent the next 60 happy years together until her passing on January 18, 2008. Mr. Zahlit proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed for 38 years as a Mechanical Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL. Arnold was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his two children, Steven (Pamela) Zahlit of Sandwich, IL and Laurel (David) Ferguson of Duxbury, MA; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Lena Moeller of San Jose, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Zahlit; his wife, Dolores Zahlit; his son, Wayne Zahlit; and his sister, Millie Nyhuis.
Interment of cremains with military honor will take place at a later date in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
