Allen Roy Christiansen, age 65, of Hinckley, IL passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 12, 1943 in Valparaiso, IN the son of Edward Oscar and Florence E. (Muloski) Christiansen.
Allen was united in marriage in Rochelle, IL on August 5, 1972 to the former Kathleen Marie Wonser and they spent the next 36 happy years together. He was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Christiansen was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in DeKalb, IL and also attended St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Maple Park, IL. Allen proudly served his country as a Seaman with the United States Navy. Mr. Christiansen was a 1961 graduate of East Aurora High School in Aurora, IL. He was employed for many years with ComEd in Montgomery, IL, until his retirement in 2002. He was later employed by TransVAC in DeKalb, IL. Allen was an avid fisherman who summered at his home on Lake Michigamme. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams and coached both his children in basketball and soccer. He will be remembered for always helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Christiansen of Hinckley, IL; his children, Steven John Christiansen and Kara Marie Christiansen both of Hinckley, IL; his brothers, Edward (Nina) Christiansen of Fife, WA and Charles (Kathryn) Christiansen of Sugar Grove, IL; his sister, Carolyn (David) Kunkel of Bristol, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Florence Christiansen and his brother, John Robert Christiansen.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, 123 S. Sycamore in Maple Park, IL with Father Joachim Tyrtania, officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Creston, IL.
